Lectiones Commandinianae

The cycle of Lectures “Lectiones Commandinianae” was founded (2007) in honour of the famous Italian mathematician Federico Commandino (Urbino 1509-1575). Well known are his mathematical texts and his activity of editing translations of ancient books of mathematics. His production includes translationswith commentaries of Archimedes, Ptolemy, Euclid, Aristarchus, Pappus, Apollonius, Eutocius, Heron and Serenus.

The Lectiones Commandinianae are organized by "SYNERGIA Research Group in Logic, Language, Cognition, History and Philosophy of Sciences" at the University of Urbino “Carlo Bo”.

Given by leading scholars, the Lectures are intended to provide a general audience with an overview of some of the modern developments of pure and applied sciences, taking into account both their historical context and their philosophical implications.
